| LIMITED EDITION LETTERPRESS PRINTS . . . . . . . "PRESSED FOLIAGE & FLOWERS" The art of pressing bits of nature to preserve its beauty was made popular in Victorian times. These ferns and Queen Anne's Lace were picked in the Summer of 2005 from the roadside near our summer cottage on Great Diamond Island in Casco Bay, Maine. They were flattened the old fashioned way: between a few paper towels stuck in the pages of a "Soundings Magazine," then placed beneath a pile of old hardcover reference books. (Exactly the way they did it in the Victorian Age, right?) Today's technology allowed me to create printing plates from scans of the actual preserved plants. Add yet another time-honored technique, letterpress printing, and the result is something even Mother Nature might admire. |
